Collaborative members meet monthly to identify pressing issues facing our community, find ways of working together to address them, and share information about our organizations’ activities.
Every year a members’ gathering is held. These events focus on learning about the health of Gabriola, setting priorities, and hearing progress reports on joint initiatives.
What we do.
Recent Activities..
On May 4, 2025 GHWC Members came together to review the members survey results and identified community priorities. A second follow up workshop is in the process of being planned.
With funding from a Community Wellness Grant from Island Health, the Collaborative came back together to revisit the strategic priorities that had been developed in 2022-2023.
In March of 2025, a survey was developed and circulated to members of the Collaborative for response. Thirty-three (33) members replied (a 57% response rate). Results represented a cross-section of the Collaborative from small organizations to large, from networks, to co-ops, to non-profits as well as individual members. The voices of Board members and other volunteers, along with staff are reflected.
In May 2025, Collaborative members met to review the results of the survey and begin planning addressing identified priorities.
Reconciliation
Truth and Reconciliation activities have been undertaken by individual organizations and by the Collaborative as a whole. We intend to ensure that as an organization we are in position to develop relationships in a good way with the Snuneymuxw First Nation and all Indigenous community members where the opportunities arise. The Collaborative supports the efforts of members to increase their knowledge and awareness of the impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities, and the ways that colonization continues to permeate how we conduct ourselves.
